Amidst the shadows

When the sunshine wane to the west, in
the horizon devoid of heat,
Against the canvas of crisp blue sky,
float memories both bitter and sweet;
Of a floundering vagabond whose desires
are dead and faith in destiny is flagging,
Who is befuddled with his existence, meagrely sustaining his life by begging;
Attired in rags, he embarks on his journey cursing destiny for his plight,
Bursting into a plaintive song, he tries to abate his misery, sorrow and spite;
Drifting aimlessly amidst the shadows, searching wildly for his destination,
He tries to revel in his mundane activities, devoid of any taste or temptation;
Squabbling over pennies, he is only abhorred and rebuked everyday alike,
Seized with terror, he mourns his life which he feels is adorned with spikes;
Feeling isolated and orphaned, he shudders to think or act unconventionally,
All that he yearns is to be loved, looked after and treated compassionately;
For a society gurgling with malice, he is only a blot, a burden, a social parasite,
That squanders the resources in scams and scandals and calls itself erudite;
But did he ever try to grasp the opportunities to emanate out of this situation?
Nay, calling it a comeuppance he melted amidst shadows of this diverse nation.
