Childhood – the glorious period of one’s life,
Is not an age to work with shovels and knife;
Employed young in hazardous and dangerous trade,
Are the innocent children of impressionable age;
Tortured like animals and beaten with rods,
Are our nation’s so-called incarnations of god;
Vulnerable to physical and mental exploitation,
They are assaulted and deprived of education;
Compelled by poverty to work in inclement weather,
They are employed in industries of crackers and leather;
Obeying their masters and working at their mercy,
They work without food and water in a torn, dirty jersey;
Instead of the school bell, they hear rattling of machine,
Child labourers of today are the citizens of tomorrow,
So they ought to be rescued from grief and sorrow;
Let’s pledge to bring this menace to an end,
